One of the best things in Morocco is to experience their Kasbahs and Ksour in terracotta colors built in green oases of otherwise rocky desert. Morocco is really a country that charms and thrills you with its color contrasts between deserts and many oases.
One of the most famous Ksar (caste) is Ait Benhaddou, which is worth seeing. Ait Benhaddou is Ksar on the edge of High Atlas near town Ouarzazate. Is under aegis of UNESCO and many times it is used for filmmaking – Lawrence Arabian or Gladiator for example. We expected crowd and were pleasantly surprised because there wasn´t crowded even though it is a touristic place.
Wherever side you come from, I recommend that you stay the night in Ouarzazate. Ait Benhaddou is only 9 km from main road Marrakesh-Ouarzazate and is called Tizi n Tichka road. Tizi n Tichka is mountain pass in High Atlas (2260 m) that connects Marrakesh with oases on south side of Atlas Mountains.
Wonderful (but slow) drive over Atlas attracts many tourists, but they kind of allocate on this vastness. We went from Marrakesh over the pass to Ouarzazate, where we spent the night and before that visited Ait Benhaddou. Next day we went in direction of ravines Todra and Dadas.
