Slovenia: Piran
Piran is definitely one of the most idyllic places in Slovenia, a true pearl. Even though it is a town by the sea, we rather than in summer visit it in winter, when there is foggy in central Slovenia, but by the sea it can be 15°C or more. This year was no exception, yesterday we enjoyed on sun at 15°C 🙂 .
Most of tourists and visitors park on lower parking place by the sea and walk to the center of Piran, to Tartini square and church above it.
Let we give you a hint. It is much better to park on upper parking place by the football stadium and town wall, and ascend it as there is the best view on old part of Piran with the church and the square, and on the great blueness of the sea – that is wonderful, almost dreamy view. From there you can walk downhill by the pave street to church and further to Tartini square and to the sea.
In Christmas and New Year’s time there are many stands and if you are lucky, as we were yesterday, than you can buy some crazy tasteful products from local farmers. Our yesterday´s “prize” was Pesto Piranese, one of the best pesto I have ever eaten so far – made of capers.
It just can´t go without coffee on the sun and we like to have it in Caffe Teater where you can get great desserts as well.
If you wish to walk in nature afterwards, you should go to Sečovlje Salt Pans. You can walk among salt pans or walk on Parenzana, a trail that connects Trieste, Italy and Poreč, Croatia where railway tracks used to run.
