Our African adventure – Bonazazi

It has been less than a week since we came back from black continent. I admit it is nice to sleep in my own bed and eat my mother´s food 🙂 , it is nice to be able to wash every day and indulge in modern world of luxury that we don´t value enough … I also already miss sleeping under the stars and all the scenes that Africa offered.

This travel wasn´t always easy as the road trip was intense ads there were many days that we didn´t brush our teeth or take a shower, but who cares? 🙂 . There was no luxury but at the same time the biggest luxury to enjoy the scenery of wild nature, majestic wildlife and tribes that live away of ballistic west world.

Two families, 22 traveling days, 5700 driven kilometers, 4 countries, 7400 photos (that are now reduced to 800), one flat tire (which is actually small number regarding the terrain), 14 times completing forms at the borders, 2 times digging up the car from the sand, 19 times sleeping under billions of stars with the best view to Milky Way, 25-30°C during the day and only 5°C during the night and countless animals that made us wonder in which film we are now. And before we realized there was yet another magnificent scene, and another, and another …. until the end.

Namib Desert, photogenic Spitzkoppe, privilege of sleeping at non-touristic Himba, bush walk with Bushmen, kids at local school that we visited, off road adventure to find desert elephants, wonderful Etosha – I have no words for it – which is National Geographic live, national park Chobe that offered film scenes when sailing by boat on the river with the same name, Kalahari Desert, Victoria Falls that are also named “smoke that thunders” (Mosi – oa – Tunya) and for final touch – flying over Okavango river delta.

Somewhere in the middle of south part of Africa is area called BONAZAZI. Juncture of four countries, that will stay part of us forever. Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Traveling Africa is not cheap in opposition to common opinion. This was our so far the most expensive travel but we don´t regret single euro spent as it was better than we could expect. We would decide over and over again to go on travel like this, even if metal (cars) that we drive in Slovenia is much under average. And that is how it is going to stay for a long time. But who cares? 🙂 .

Let our first photos (that were so hard to pick) take you to journey and awake (or, maybe not, we are different) curiosity, courage and vision in you (as just a wish is not enough!). Vision that it is possible, it is doable, it is worth it and that courage always wins over fear. If you want to go to Africa, don´t wait too long as it is really worth exploring.
