Sigiriya or Lion Rock is one of most recognizable symbols of Sri Lanka and at the same time one of the most beautiful monoliths on the world. To its top, where royal family once used to live, leads many stairs and the view is wonderful and extensive – at least when the weather is nice.

It lies between two towns, Dambulla and Habarana, where you can find accommodation at reasonable price. We found ourselves an accommodation right nearby, outside of both cities, so close, that we walked there – early in the morning, when the sun wasn´t so hot yet.

Sigiriya is one of Unesco´s World Heritage Sites and the entrance is therefore high – 30 $ per person, but it definitely is the trip to invest to while traveling Sri Lanka.

On our way from hotel to Sigiriya we were cheered up by all sorts of reptiles and monkeys, which ate our entire snack (bananas), but at the same time weren’t too pushy. To experience that colorful rock with all its paintings, gardens and natural pools was nice experience for our whole family, luckily without too many tourists and crowd.
